  2. Hi everyone,

I am a young writer/director who recently moved from Darwin to Melbourne. I attended the forum this weekend and found it both inspiring and encouraging.

Having moved from a small and supportive arts community I have faced many challenges as an artist in Melbourne and at times feel like I'm lost out at sea alone, but hearing your words of wisdom Saturday gave me hope.

The panels thoughts and advise (in particular Kristy Edmunds) resonated very strongly with me and the journey I have taken as a practicing artist in Melbourne. Especially their comments on supporting one another, being generous with critical feedback and offering guidance and mentorship, these are things that I need above funding. I am need of a community and I hope this could be the beginning of finding one for me.

On this note I would like to invite you to the creative development showing of my new work Bird Song which will be presented by Platform Youth Theatre at the Donkey Wheel House as part of an emerging artists showcase, titled "From Somewhere Underneath" Program 1. Wednesday 29th September - Saturday 2nd October 7-8.30pm.

The long term vision of Bird Song is to take it to China where I hope to develop it into a bi-lingual touring production in collaboration with Chinese artists as part of a residency with a local theatre company. This is the biggest and most ambitious project I have worked on and I am doing it completely independently. I know I am ready to work through the challenges I will face over the next few years but I am also aware that to succeed I need to draw on the wisdom of those of have walked the path before me. So at that note, I would love for you to come and be 'generous' with your feedback and advise.
